SeAH Steel has secured a contract to supply 1,750 tons of stainless steel pipes for the Teesside CCUS project in the UK. The project is a government-led initiative to capture carbon dioxide from power generation and store it permanently in the deep sea. SeAH Steel's pipes are used to transport captured CO2 in both gaseous and liquid forms within low-carbon combined cycle power plants and subsea storage facilities. The pipes feature cryogenic impact toughness down to minus 196 degrees Celsius and corrosion resistance for high-pressure subsea environments. They are produced in extra-long 12-meter lengths to minimize welded joints. The UK government is investing about 31 trillion won in large-scale carbon capture clusters as part of its net zero strategy. The global carbon capture and storage market is projected to reach about 73 trillion won by 2030. SeAH Steel plans to use this contract as a reference for additional orders in the expanding CCUS market.
