Agreed. The 2.5 million tonnes of scrap mjunction sourced last year is a real number. If India scales that, it directly cuts emissions from steelmaking without waiting for hydrogen or CCS to become cheap.

Worth noting that electric arc furnaces running on scrap need reliable power. If India's grid isn't decarbonized by then, the emissions savings from scrap could be partially offset by coal-heavy electricity. Need to see the full lifecycle.

Also worth noting that scrap collection and sorting infrastructure is still fragmented in India. The 2.5 Mt figure is a start but the country needs way more organized scrap supply chains to hit 300 Mt steel capacity. That's a logistics and policy challenge.
