Scottish Water Installs Solar Array at Penicuik Pumping Station
infrastructure-now.co.ukScottish Water has deployed 372 solar panels at the Lawhead Treated Water Pumping Station in Penicuik. The system generates approximately 0.15GWh of electricity annually, covering 27% of the facility's total energy needs and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 28 tonnes per year. The project uses a mix of tank and ground mounted panels to lower operational costs and protect the utility from volatile electricity prices. Excess power is exported back to the national grid, supporting Scottish Water's goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2040.
