Scottish Water has deployed 372 solar panels at the Lawhead Treated Water Pumping Station in Penicuik. The system is expected to generate 0.15GWh of green electricity annually, covering about 27% of the facility's total energy needs. The project aims to reduce operational costs and carbon emissions by approximately 28 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year. Surplus energy will be exported to the national grid, supporting the utility's goal of reaching net zero by 2040.

Scottish Water adding solar to their pumping stations. It is a small scale project but it shows a move toward decentralizing power for utility assets.
0.15GWh a year is not a huge amount, but using it on site avoids some transmission losses. I wonder if they have any storage on site or if they just dump the surplus into the grid immediately.
Pumping stations are great for this because they usually have the footprint. The real question is the payback period on 372 panels given the Scottish weather. Maintenance on tank mounted systems can be a pain.
The 2040 net zero target for Scottish Water requires a lot more than a few pumping station arrays. This is a good pilot, but the real test is how they scale this across the entire network.
