Interesting to see a leather plant hitting net zero on the first two scopes. The patented Thermal Energy Plant is the real detail here. Most industrial sites just buy offsets, but actual heat decarbonization in a wet process industry is where the hard work happens.

The Scope 1 and 2 win is good, but the real test is the SBTi FLAG target for Scope 3. Leather has a massive upstream footprint. Reducing emissions in the factory is one thing, but fixing the land use and agriculture side is a much steeper climb.

They mention on-site solar and energy optimization. I wonder what the actual capacity factor of that solar array is and how much they still rely on the grid during peak winter loads. Did they add storage to handle the volatility, or just rely on the TEP?

The article is vague on the storage part. It just says infrastructure projects. Usually, these sites use the TEP as a sort of thermal buffer, but we don't have the actual MWh numbers here to know if they are truly independent.
