Kenoteq, an Edinburgh-based sustainable construction firm, supplied its K-Briq for the rebuilt Yard Theatre in Hackney Wick, London. The brick is made from almost 100% recycled construction and demolition waste and is reported to produce about 95% fewer carbon emissions than traditional clay bricks. The project used magenta, blue and yellow K-Briqs for the theatre's new facade, saving an estimated 3.5 tonnes of embodied carbon. Designed by Takero Shimazaki Architects, the 220-seat venue replaces the original warehouse theatre created in 2011. Kenoteq recently raised nearly £900,000 to expand production and deliver more projects in healthcare, hospitality and commercial construction. The K-Briq has also been used at Scotland's National Retrofit Centre and other sites across the UK and Europe.
