Scottish K-Briq bricks made from recycled rubble feature on rebuilt Yard Theatre in London
scotsman.comKenoteq's K-Briq, a brick made from almost 100% recycled construction and demolition waste, was used on the new facade of The Yard Theatre in Hackney Wick, London. The Edinburgh-based company says the bricks produce around 95% fewer carbon emissions than traditional clay bricks, and their use on the project saved an estimated 3.5 tonnes of embodied carbon. Designed by Takero Shimazaki Architects, the rebuilt 220-seat theatre features magenta, blue and yellow K-Briqs that reference Hackney Wick's graffiti culture. The project also uses other low carbon materials and natural ventilation. Kenoteq recently raised nearly £900,000 to increase production capacity and deliver projects in healthcare, hospitality and commercial sectors.
