Basically a deal to bring tire pyrolysis to Brazil. They want to recover carbon black from old tires, which cuts CO2 by up to 93 percent compared to making it from scratch. Still just a letter of intent, so nothing is set in stone yet.
The carbon reduction numbers look good on paper, but I want to see the feedstock logistics. Moving massive amounts of scrap tires to a central plant in Brazil is a huge operational hurdle. How do they plan to handle the transport costs?
Pyrolysis is a tough business. The tech is one thing, but the maintenance on these plants is usually where the money disappears. Hope the pilot phase actually tests the long term wear and tear of the equipment.
The success of this depends on Brazilian waste regulations. If there are no penalties for illegal tire dumping or no subsidies for recovered carbon black, the commercial viability of these plants drops significantly.
