Scaling Mass Timber: Knauf and XLAM Develop Low Carbon CLT Systems

Knauf and XLAM have spent a decade developing a library of NCC-compliant Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) systems. By combining mass timber fabrication with specialized plasterboard engineering, the partnership addresses critical fire, acoustic, and thermal performance standards required for low to mid-rise buildings in Australia. This collaboration focuses on reducing embodied carbon in construction by creating repeatable, test-backed designs. Moving away from one-off innovations toward standardized BIM models and verified build-ups allows architects and builders to specify low-carbon materials with more confidence and less project risk.
