Saudi Readymix signed an MoU with ClimateCrete, a KAUST spinout, to test re-engineered sand made from local desert sand and construction or drilling waste as concrete aggregate. The agreement includes building a processing facility and running technical tests on strength, performance, and economic viability in real-world applications. ClimateCrete is part of the NovusCrete Consortium alongside the Public Investment Fund, NEOM, the Saudi Investment Recycling Company, and Sika. The goal is to reduce reliance on imported sand and lower carbon emissions from concrete, a major industrial emitter. A separate MoU with the Oil Sustainability Program will support development of NovusCrete concrete technologies and broader deployment in Saudi projects. Both agreements align with Vision 2030 and the kingdom's push to localize sustainable building materials.
