SaskPower invests $1.8B in grid upgrades, reports $114M loss after carbon charge ends

The utility also spent $579 million on existing infrastructure repairs and upgrades. A $114 million net loss was attributed to ending the federal carbon charge rate rider collected from customers as of April 2025. The utility is advancing the Coal Life Extension Program for seven coal units and evaluating large nuclear reactor technologies alongside its small modular reactor program. The 370 MW Aspen Power Station natural gas plant near Lanigan is over 60% complete and expected online by end of 2027. SaskPower also reported record procurement with $165 million in Indigenous spending and over $1 billion committed to Saskatchewan suppliers.
