Sarawak is shifting from a resource-based economy to a low-carbon, technology-driven model under its Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030). Premier Abang Johari announced plans to leverage forests as carbon sinks for international carbon trading, expand hydroelectricity, solar, energy storage, and biomass projects, and adopt AI for public service efficiency. The state aims to become a regional green-energy hub. The strategy includes upgrading nearly 5,700 km of logging roads for public use and developing Kapit as a sustainable green city powered by hydroelectric generation. Human capital development is a priority with 64 education programs in science, tech, green energy, and digital economy fields. These moves align with global sustainability goals and the Paris Agreement's carbon market mechanisms.
