Sarawak has issued three carbon credit trading licences covering 56,806 hectares, according to Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh. One licence is already undergoing validation by a certified validation and verification body, while the other two were recently issued. The state has also approved eight carbon study permits covering 179,327 hectares for projects still in the design phase. Credits can only be traded after projects pass validation and verification by internationally recognised VVBs, which is the step that turns a licensed area into registered credits with actual market value. The state says local communities can benefit through jobs and technical training, including forest replanting, nursery management, and biomass assessment.
