Sarawak green transition targets RM550 billion GDP and RM700 billion investments by 2050
dayakdaily.comSarawak's green economy transition is projected to add RM550 billion to the state's GDP and attract RM700 billion in investments, according to Deputy Premier Awang Tengah. The plan, driven by the Sarawak Energy Transition Policy and the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, focuses on hydrogen, carbon capture, renewable energy, and low-carbon transport like the Autonomous Rapid Transit system. Officials say the strategy could create 80,000 jobs and position Sarawak as a regional clean energy leader. The state has also completed a net zero strategy and carbon plan that identifies over RM357 billion in green investment opportunities and 223,000 jobs by 2050. The framework includes seven pillars covering renewables, natural gas, hydrogen, carbon capture, alternative energy, and market mechanisms like Renewable Energy Certificates. The government frames conservation as an investment in natural capital that supports water security, food production, and climate resilience alongside economic growth.
