Colombia and the Netherlands recently hosted the first summit dedicated to the practical transition away from fossil fuels in Santa Marta. The event brought together 57 countries to discuss the real world barriers to moving away from coal, oil, and gas, avoiding the formal negotiation deadlock often seen at larger COP summits. Key outcomes include the creation of a new science panel to provide tailored analysis for nations accelerating their energy transitions and a commitment to develop an informal fossil fuel roadmap. Tuvalu and Ireland will co-host the next summit in 2027.
