Santa Maria UK has reduced its annual carbon emissions by approximately 12 tonnes by switching from bulk liquid nitrogen deliveries to an on-site generation system. By producing nitrogen at the specific purity required for food packaging rather than ultra-high purity, the company lowered its energy demand and eliminated transport emissions. The project utilized Atlas Copco technology and a variable speed compressor to optimize efficiency. The transition resulted in a projected annual saving of over £56,000, with a payback period of roughly one year, providing a scalable model for other industrial facilities in the Paulig Group.
