Food producer Santa Maria has cut its annual carbon emissions by 12 tonnes by switching from bulk liquid nitrogen deliveries to an on-site generation system. By producing nitrogen at the specific purity required for food packaging rather than over-specifying, the company reduced its energy demand and eliminated transport emissions. The project, implemented with Atlas Copco, demonstrates how industrial efficiency and right-sizing technical specifications can lead to rapid decarbonization. The transition resulted in a 49% reduction in related CO2 emissions and a projected payback period of approximately one year.
