Santa Aratack village projects create jobs with Low-Carbon Development Strategy funding in Guyana
guyanachronicle.comSanta Aratack, the only Amerindian community in Guyana's Region Three, is using Low-Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) funding to build a mechanic shop, shade houses, and a training centre for joinery. Toshao Christopher Cornelius says these projects are creating local employment and keeping money circulating within the village. The community has also invested $13 million in agriculture, including 38 acres of pineapple expected to harvest from August to September. These initiatives show how LCDS funds can support local economic diversification in rural communities. The village is shifting from relying on outside purchases to producing its own goods like beds and cupboards through the joinery training centre. Young people are working alongside elders in farming, shade houses, and poultry rearing. Cornelius encourages other village leaders to open up to investors and sign proper agreements to employ local people.
