Sangster International Airport in Jamaica has moved up to Level 3 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation program run by Airports Council International. The upgrade means the airport is now required to coordinate carbon reduction efforts with airlines, ground handlers, and other tenants on site, not just manage its own emissions. The article does not mention any actual carbon numbers. Accreditation levels are process based, not performance based. Would be good to see tonnes reduced or intensity per passenger.

ACI program is solid but Level 3 still stops short of offsetting or net zero targets. That comes at Level 4 and 5. Still a step forward for a Caribbean airport though.

Worth noting that ACI accreditation is voluntary. The fact they pursued it suggests either regulatory pressure coming down the line or a real business case. Tourism dependent islands feel climate risk directly.

Airport emissions are mostly from aircraft and ground vehicles. Unless they are electrifying ground support equipment or buying SAF, this is mainly an accounting exercise. Still better than nothing.
