Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 adopts silicon-carbon batteries for higher capacity and thinner design
aol.comSamsung has introduced silicon-carbon batteries in its Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 foldable phones. The new battery chemistry stores more energy per gram than traditional lithium-ion batteries, allowing Samsung to fit a 5,000 mAh battery into the Z Fold 8 Ultra without making the phone thicker. This is the same capacity as the Galaxy S26 slab phone, but in a foldable form factor. The company says it optimized the silicon content from the material level to maintain reliability and long-term stability. Silicon-carbon batteries have been used in other Android phones but were absent from the Galaxy S26 lineup earlier this year. Samsung appears to have prioritized foldables for the debut, likely because those devices face tighter space constraints. The trade-off is cost. RAM shortages and rising component prices mean the new phones are more expensive than previous generations. The Z Fold 8 starts at a higher price point than the Z Fold 7, making the upgrade harder to justify for users who don't need the extra battery capacity.
