Samsung is looking at AI data centers as a new energy business opportunity, responding to surging power demand from artificial intelligence. Global data center electricity use could hit 1,200 TWh by 2030, nearly triple current levels, driven by AI servers. Big tech firms like Meta, Amazon, and Google are buying clean energy through PPAs, favoring nuclear, wind, solar, and LNG to cut emissions and ensure stable supply. Samsung affiliates could participate in building AI data centers, energy storage, and cooling systems in South Korea. The company previously sold its energy and chemical units but now sees a shift away from coal and oil toward low-carbon sources. Analysts note the energy transition is now about securing reliable power, not just reducing carbon quickly.
