Saipem has won a contract from Ren-Gas to supply a carbon capture unit for the Tampere Power-to-Gas project in Finland. The unit will use Saipem's Bluenzyme 200 technology, based on its CO2 Solutions platform, to capture CO2 for an e-methane facility that plans to produce around 200 GWh of renewable synthetic methane per year. The scope covers engineering, procurement, fabrication, and support during installation, commissioning, startup, and performance testing. The contract only takes effect after Ren-Gas makes a final investment decision on the Tampere project. First production is expected in 2028, with capacity planned to double in a later phase. The e-methane is aimed at heavy-duty road transport in Germany, using existing gas infrastructure. The plant will also produce hydrogen and district heating from process waste heat, with site integration next to the Tarastenjärvi power plant for efficient CO2 delivery and heat use.
