SABIC has launched LNP ELCRIN DC0051RC1, its first post-consumer recycled (PCR) carbon fiber reinforced compound. The material contains 75% PCR content and is based on polycarbonate resin. It offers high stiffness, dimensional stability, and UL94 V0 flame retardancy at 0.8 mm thickness. The compound is designed for consumer electronics housings like laptop shells, supporting circularity without sacrificing performance. This launch is relevant for anyone tracking how industrial materials are shifting toward lower carbon footprints. By using recycled carbon fiber instead of virgin material, SABIC reduces the embedded emissions in the supply chain. The non-halogenated flame retardant chemistry also avoids certain environmental and health risks. The compound is available globally now.
