SÜDPACK Cuts Operational Emissions 73% but Scope 3 Still Drives Total Footprint
grocerytradenews.comSÜDPACK reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 73% between 2021 and 2025, close to its 76.3% target for 2030. The flexible packaging maker also cut total CO2-equivalent emissions 21% versus the 2021 baseline. But its footprint rose 3.91% in 2025 as sales volumes grew and plants in Erolzheim and Coulmer expanded. The company says it still met its annual SBTi-derived reduction target. Most of SÜDPACK's climate impact is in Scope 3.1, purchased goods and services, which account for roughly two-thirds of total footprint. Those emissions fell 16% against the baseline, short of the 25% target for 2030. For supermarket and FMCG procurement teams, the takeaway is that pack-level choices like resin type, film thickness, recyclability, and transport weight matter more than corporate energy improvements. SÜDPACK now runs all EU plants on renewable electricity with guarantees of origin and gets 57% of total energy from renewables, targeting 88% by 2030. It also cut total energy use 19% since 2021. Whether the company's new mono-material and lightweight films actually cut supply-chain emissions depends on customers switching specifications away from multilayer structures.
