The gap between the EU ETS and CORSIA is a massive problem. We have a high standard for short haul but basically ignore the heaviest emitters on long haul routes. It is a broken incentive structure that lets legacy carriers off the hook.
Exactly. The article says the EU could get 17 billion a year by 2030 if they closed these loopholes. That is a lot of money for SAF and infrastructure that is currently just vanishing.
The focus on SAF is fine, but I want to see the actual production capacity numbers. We hear about mandates and subsidies, but the physical plant build out for these fuels is usually way behind the policy targets. Where is the actual capacity coming from?
That is the point. Ryanair is growing fast and the tech for zero emission flight is not scaling. We are just seeing more planes in the air while the carbon market only catches a fraction of the cost.
