Russia starts producing multi-walled carbon nanotubes for batteries and fire-retardant coatings
www1.ruRussia has started producing multi-walled carbon nanotubes in Novosibirsk, a material used in lithium-ion batteries, conductive polymers, and fire-retardant coatings. The project is run by the NTI Competence Center and the Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with about 680 million rubles invested over three years. Current output is small, several tens of kilograms per year, while industrial partners are asking for 1 to 2 tons per month. Most nanotubes are still imported from China, and the Russian market is estimated at up to 50 million rubles annually. The new line is separate from OCSiAl's single-walled TUBALL production. For readers tracking battery supply chains, this is a pilot-scale step, not a market shift. The gap between current production and stated demand is the detail to watch.
