RUDA completes Pakistan's first methane-to-carbon credit validation at Mehmood Booti dumpsite
minutemirror.com.pkPakistan's first methane-to-carbon credit validation at a dumpsite has been completed. The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) validated methane capture at the Mehmood Booti site in Lahore, which once held over 13 million tons of waste. The project targets methane, a greenhouse gas more than 80 times as potent as CO2 over a 20-year period. Two accredited third-party experts spent three days inspecting the site and trained RUDA staff on monitoring, verification and reporting. The validation report now goes to the US-based VEERA Registry under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. If registered, RUDA can sell carbon credits and ITMOs, with revenue going toward climate and environmental projects. RUDA plans to turn the former dump into an environmental park and aims to make Ravi City Pakistan's first carbon-neutral riverfront city. The next step is registry registration and actual credit issuance, which will show whether the project delivers measurable emissions reductions.
