Royal Mail reported a 31% reduction in total market-based emissions compared to its 2020/21 baseline, according to its latest sustainability report. The company deployed 2,000 electric vans in the past year and introduced electric heavy goods vehicles. It also used HVO fuel and made energy efficiency improvements across its operations. Average emissions per parcel fell to 164gCO2e, down 6% year on year. Nearly a third of Royal Mail's delivery routes are now zero emission, and 44 delivery offices run entirely on electric power. The operator's total market-based emissions for 2025/26 were 1,085KtCO2e, a 7% drop from the previous year. The report shows how a large logistics fleet can cut carbon by combining vehicle electrification with fuel switching and operational changes.

The 31% cut is solid but I want to see the split between electrification and HVO. HVO is a drop in fuel, not a permanent fix. If they lean too hard on it the real decarbonization might stall.

Agreed. 2,000 electric vans in one year is real deployment. But eHGVs are still a tiny fraction. The grid side matters too. If those vans charge during peak hours the carbon benefit shrinks. Time of use charging matters.

The 31% cut is market based which means they are using renewable energy certificates. Would like to see location based numbers too. Also HVO is a drop in fuel with its own supply chain emissions. Still progress but the mix matters for credibility.
