Romanian chemical maker Chimcomplex borrows €55M from affiliate to cover EU carbon costs
app.dealroom.coChimcomplex, Romania's largest chemicals producer, has taken a €55 million loan from an affiliated company to cover mandatory EU ETS emission certificates, working capital, and energy costs. The deal includes an initial €11.2 million tranche and a credit line up to €43.8 million, with interest tied to the company's average existing credit rate. The move highlights how high energy prices and carbon costs are squeezing energy-intensive industries across Europe. Chimcomplex posted a net loss of 56.1 million lei in H1 2026, double the prior year, and revenue fell 11% to 543 million lei. The loan is a defensive measure to maintain compliance while the company works on efficiency upgrades like electrolysis plant modernization and solar PV investments.
