Rolls-Royce and easyJet Test Hydrogen Powered Jet Engine
saferhighways.co.ukRolls-Royce and easyJet have successfully completed ground tests of a Pearl 15 jet engine running on 100% hydrogen. The trials, conducted at NASA's Stennis Space Center, simulated a full flight profile from takeoff to landing to prove that gas turbines can be adapted for hydrogen fuel. While the test is a technical win, significant hurdles remain for commercial use. These include the need for cryogenic storage, redesigned aircraft architectures, and a complete overhaul of airport refueling infrastructure to handle hydrogen's low volumetric density.
