Roland Garros Airport in Réunion has launched a new arrivals terminal using bioclimatic design to slash energy use. The facility uses a ventilated canyon and trade winds to cool passengers, reducing the need for air conditioning across 90 percent of its floor area. Built with sustainable timber and solar-control glazing, the terminal reports a 60 percent reduction in energy consumption compared to previous designs. This project serves as a scalable model for reducing the operational carbon footprint of aviation infrastructure in tropical climates.
