Researchers at MIT are developing a robotic construction system using modular lattice blocks, known as voxels, to lower the carbon footprint of buildings. By using automated MILAbots to assemble these structures, the process reduces material waste and the reliance on carbon-heavy concrete and steel. The system focuses on material efficiency, using steel and plywood lattices to maintain structural strength while using fewer raw materials. This approach allows for adaptable buildings that can be reconfigured or disassembled, reducing long-term demolition waste and environmental impact.
