RNG Now Accounts for 94% of Natural Gas Vehicle Fuel in US
biomassmagazine.comRenewable natural gas (RNG) has reached a new milestone, making up 94% of all on-road fuel used in natural gas vehicles during 2025. This shift is driven by capturing organic waste from landfills, wastewater, and agriculture to replace traditional diesel and fossil gas in heavy duty fleets. Data from California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard program shows that bio-CNG portfolios achieved a carbon negative intensity of -198.32 gCO2e/MJ. In total, RNG motor fuel use in 2025 displaced over 11 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
