The RMT offshore union has joined an industry-wide open letter calling on the UK government to support continued domestic oil and gas production while accelerating investment in offshore wind, carbon capture, hydrogen, and other low-carbon industries. The union argues that maintaining UK production is essential for energy security, industrial resilience, and a fair transition for offshore workers. General Secretary Eddie Dempsey emphasized that new oil and gas sources should be drilled and activated alongside progress on transition training, jobs plans, and the Fair Work Charter in offshore wind. He also called for domestic production to be tied to domestic use, reducing reliance on imports and their higher environmental costs. The letter frames an all-energy approach as key to protecting jobs and reducing dependence on imported oil and gas.
