Rize Raises $31 Million to Scale Sustainable Rice Farming and Carbon Credits in Southeast Asia
whalesbook.comRize, an agri-tech platform focused on sustainable rice farming, has raised $31 million in Series B funding. The round includes $20 million in equity led by BNP Paribas Asset Management Alts and $11 million in debt from UOB and BIDV. Investors include The Rockefeller Foundation, Temasek, and Breakthrough Energy Ventures. The company plans to expand in Vietnam and Indonesia, develop AI tools for farmers, and push toward Gold Standard certification for its carbon credit projects. Rize aims to generate over one million carbon credits within five years. The company currently works with 17,000 smallholder farmers across 50,000 hectares and has seen a ten-fold increase in scale since its Series A round two years ago. It sells low-emission rice to markets in Europe, Australia, Canada, and Singapore. The mix of equity and debt in this round shows Rize is using both investor capital and traditional loans to fund growth. Execution risks include farmer adoption of sustainable practices, rice price volatility, and carbon credit certification timelines.
