Rio Tinto has entered a 30-year power purchase agreement to transition its iron ore operations in Western Australia's Pilbara region to renewable energy. The initiative starts with a 75 MWac solar facility, with plans for expansion and battery storage to replace gas and diesel power. This long-term contract is part of a broader strategy to reach net-zero operational emissions by 2050. By shifting to clean electricity, the company aims to lower its carbon footprint and reduce financial exposure to volatile fossil fuel prices.
