Rio Tinto Commissions AP60 Low Carbon Aluminium Smelter in Quebec
australianresourcesandinvestment.com.auRio Tinto has begun commissioning its 1.5 billion dollar AP60 smelter expansion in Quebec, Canada. The project adds 160,000 tonnes of annual primary aluminium capacity using technology that significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to industry averages. The new facility produces 1.6 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per tonne of aluminium, a sharp drop from the 10.9 tonne industry average. This expansion allows Rio Tinto to retire older, higher emission potrooms while maintaining production levels.
