Restoring Brazil's Cerrado: BTG Pactual and Conservation International's Billion-Dollar Project
conservation.orgA new partnership between BTG Pactual TIG and Conservation International is scaling the restoration of Brazil's Cerrado savanna. By combining commercial eucalyptus plantations with native woodland restoration, the project aims to recover degraded cattle pastures while generating high-value carbon credits. The initiative has secured 1.24 billion USD to restore 80,000 hectares across 33 farms. This hybrid model uses the steady returns of sustainable timber to fund the higher cost of biodiversity restoration, creating a financial engine for large-scale climate action.
