Physicists have identified a new quantum state of matter in a carbon material that does not fit standard two or three dimensional categories. This transdimensional state was discovered during experiments with the Hall effect, where electrons exhibited unexpected looping motions in a magnetic field. The material, consisting of carbon atoms in a rhombus pattern, is between 2 and 5 nanometers thick. This discovery could lead to a deeper understanding of electron behavior and the development of more efficient conductive materials.
