Scientists at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology have captured a rare, double ring-slipped reaction intermediate in the formation of metallocenes. By using a pincer ligand to stabilize the structure, the team provided the first full structural characterization of this elusive step in organometallic chemistry. This discovery helps researchers understand how these molecular sandwiches form and react. These insights enable the design of stimuli-responsive materials, which could improve the efficiency of catalysts, sensors, and energy-related chemical processes.
