Renforth Resources and Queen's University test nickel recovery with carbon capture at Victoria deposit
proactiveinvestors.comRenforth Resources is testing a hydrometallurgical process with Queen's University that could recover nickel, cobalt, copper and zinc from pyrrhotite at its Victoria deposit in Quebec while also capturing CO2 through mineral carbonation. The work includes bench-scale leaching, column tests that simulate heap leaching, and a techno-economic analysis plus life cycle assessment. The Victoria deposit is large, with an inferred resource of 125 million tonnes containing 331 million pounds of nickel and 28 million pounds of cobalt. If the process works at scale, it could give battery and EV supply chains a way to source metals with a smaller carbon footprint. The results from the column tests and the LCA will determine whether the approach is viable beyond the lab.
