Renforth and Queen's University test nickel recovery with carbon capture at Victoria deposit
proactiveinvestors.comRenforth Resources is partnering with Queen's University to test a hydrometallurgical process that recovers nickel and cobalt from pyrrhotite at its Victoria deposit in Quebec while capturing CO2. The process uses column leach tests on coarse material to simulate heap leaching, with mineral carbonation converting CO2 into stable carbonates. Victoria hosts 331 million pounds of nickel in an Inferred Mineral Resource, along with cobalt, copper, zinc, and silver. The work includes bench-scale leaching, recovery of nickel, cobalt, copper, and zinc as saleable intermediates, plus techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment. The goal is to lower the carbon footprint of battery metals, which is becoming a selling point for EV supply chains. Renforth and Queen's are finalizing an IP agreement. This is early-stage testwork, not production. But if the process works at scale, it could make the Victoria deposit more attractive and give the company a carbon capture angle that most nickel projects cannot offer.
