Regenerative Agriculture Gains Ground in India to Restore Soil Health and Build Climate Resilience
ianslive.inA new report from Grant Thornton Bharat and the US-India Business Council highlights regenerative agriculture as a practical path to fight land degradation in India, which affects an estimated 115-120 million hectares. The sector is valued around $62 million in 2025 and is growing with government support, private investment, and emerging carbon credit programs. States like Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, and Maharashtra are already seeing scalable models take shape. The report notes that technology, including AI, IoT sensors, and satellite imagery, can help farmers improve efficiency and traceability. But large-scale adoption still faces barriers such as fragmented landholdings, transition costs, and unclear carbon market rules. It calls for stronger public-private collaboration and a unified national framework to measure gains in soil health, water use, and carbon sequestration.
