Finnish startup Reduciner is deploying a one megawatt pilot plant to convert captured carbon dioxide into syngas and sustainable fuels. The process uses renewable electricity and biogenic CO2 to create carbon monoxide, reducing the amount of hydrogen needed for downstream fuel production. The technology targets hard to abate sectors like cement, steel, and lime. By producing activated carbon as a co-product and utilizing existing industrial infrastructure, the company aims to lower the cost of synthetic fuel production.
