Redbourn Leisure Centre in Hertfordshire has installed a 130kWp rooftop solar-plus-storage system and now expects its electricity costs to drop by 61%, saving over £19,000 per year. The system includes 278 bifacial panels, a 90kW inverter, and a 104kWh battery, producing an estimated 130.86MWh of renewable electricity annually. Since commissioning, about 90% of the solar energy is consumed on site, with only 10% exported to the grid. The project also cuts carbon emissions by around 19 tonnes per year. Forty percent of the capital came from The Energy Resilience Fund, a UK social investment coalition that supported the project partly because of its projected carbon reduction. The system uses SolarEdge's energy management platform to stay within grid export limits while maximizing self-consumption, and the trust running the centre plans to add a similar system once a new sports hall is built.
