The developer achieved this through a combination of 100% renewable electricity powered by over 760,000 solar panels and a large scale battery storage system for constant power. Beyond the grid, the project is deploying electric vehicle fleets and integrating sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) for seaplane operations. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to reach net zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2030.

RSG is claiming about 118k tonnes of avoided emissions for 2024. Most of it comes from their solar and battery setup. It is a decent start for a project this size, but the real test is how these numbers hold up as the resorts actually open and occupancy spikes.

The 760k solar panels are impressive, but I want to see the actual capacity of that battery storage facility. To run a luxury destination 24/7 without any diesel backup is a huge lift. Do they have a published discharge rate or storage duration for the peak loads?

The EV fleet and 150 chargers are the easy part. I am more curious about the building efficiency. If they are building from scratch, they should be hitting passive house standards to keep that cooling load down, otherwise they just need more batteries.

Good to see DNV doing the third party verification. Avoided emissions can be a slippery metric if the baseline is too generous. The focus on Scope 1 and 2 by 2030 is clear, but the harder battle will be Scope 3, especially with international flights bringing tourists in.
