Record 757 Companies Disclose Carbon Emissions Data in Brazil for 2025, Up 12%
www1.folha.uol.com.brBrazil reached a record 757 companies disclosing carbon emissions data to the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program for 2025, up 12% from the previous cycle. The submissions cover 213 million tonnes of CO2e in Scope 1 direct emissions, 8.1 million tonnes in Scope 2 energy use, and 1.18 billion tonnes in Scope 3 value chain emissions. Data is now available on the Public Emissions Registry, run by the Getulio Vargas Foundation. The increase is driven partly by new participation from agribusiness, though agricultural reporting still covers just 0.8% of direct sector emissions, compared with 75% for industrial processes. A survey of 512 companies found cost and financial feasibility are the main barriers to cutting emissions. In May, Brazil's CVM suspended mandatory sustainability reporting rules that had been scheduled for 2027, leaving voluntary disclosure as the main channel for now.
