Rebound JV plans large SAF hub in Dunkirk, France: 160,000 tonnes per year via Alcohol-to-Jet pathway

Technip Energies, Airbus, Safran, and agricultural cooperative Tereos have launched the Rebound joint venture to build a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant at the Port of Dunkirk in northern France. The project targets 160,000 tonnes of SAF per year using the Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) pathway, converting advanced ethanol from agricultural and forestry residues into drop-in jet fuel. The partners cover the full value chain from feedstock supply to aircraft integration, and the site offers maritime, rail, and pipeline logistics. The plant is designed to help meet European Union RefuelEU Aviation mandates, which require increasing SAF blending at EU airports. Dunkirk is emerging as a low-carbon industrial hub with existing hydrogen and renewable energy investments. The project is in the development phase with engineering studies and permitting underway. A final investment decision is expected after approvals in the second half of 2026.
