Rain Carbon, a subsidiary of Rain Industries, has signed a collaboration agreement with BioBTX to supply renewable aromatic products to the chemical industry. BioBTX will use its proprietary catalytic cracking process at a new plant in Delfzijl, Netherlands, converting plastic waste into about 10,000 tonnes per year of aromatic oil. Rain Carbon will then process that oil into benzene, phthalic anhydride, and other derivatives for use in pharmaceuticals, coatings, toys, and automotive parts. The plant is expected to start commercial operations in early 2028, roughly 18 months after the final investment decision made in July 2026. The partnership aims to offer drop-in replacements for fossil-based aromatics, helping customers lower their carbon footprints without changing product performance. The scale is modest compared to conventional petrochemical output, but it represents a first commercial step for renewable aromatics in Europe.
