The operator of Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan reported an 11 percent reduction in carbon emissions from fuel and electricity in 2025, bringing cumulative cuts since 2012 to over 50 percent. The airport also expanded its solar power plant, recycled 70 tons of waste, reused 88 percent of water, and planted 20,000 trees. It remains the only airport in the Middle East and North Africa to hold Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation, the highest level under the program. On the social side, the Airport International Group Foundation graduated 72 trainees from its Hirfati vocational center and launched a new cohort. Women made up 38 percent of new hires through mid-2026. The airport also obtained ISO 50001 for energy management and retained four other ISO certifications. Local suppliers accounted for 81 percent of its total supplier base. The operator says these efforts are part of an integrated management approach, not just compliance.

The 88 percent water reuse and 70 tons of waste recycling are solid operational metrics. But I would like to see the baseline year for those. Without that, it is hard to tell if this is incremental or a step change.

Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation is legit. That means they are offsetting residual emissions and engaging their supply chain. The 11 percent annual drop is decent but not groundbreaking. The solar plant capacity would be useful to know.
